Hydrogeochemical delineation of groundwater fitness for drinking and agricultural utilities in Thiruvallur district, South India

Abstract Appraisal of groundwater fitness to drinking, agricultural, and domestic purposes was attempted within the Thiruvallur district South India since is significant sources for above utilities. Groundwater samples collected from a sum 110 locations have be analyzed major concentrations which higher values total dissolved solids (TDS), chloride (Cl − ), sodium (Na + ) ions were noted during pre-monsoon (PRM) specifically besides east along with southeastern part study region calcium (Ca 2+ nitrate (NO 3 disseminated central eastern parts post-monsoon (POM) season. Suitability water quality depends upon solids; Water Quality Index (WQI) suggests 70% 62% area representing hard sedimentary formations are appropriate consumption Irrigation aptness utility majority suitable in view electrical conductance, adsorption ratio, USSL plot, Na%, Wilcox’s Kelly’s Doneen’s plot. Dominant hydrochemical facies observed Na-Cl, mixed Ca-Mg-Cl, Ca-HCO , parameters like Na Ca HCO Cl NO been next may influence geogenic, anthropogenic, seawater encroachment.
